FUSIAN Serves Pink Sushi Rolls to Support Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October 6, 2025 By Dayton937

This October, FUSIAN is inviting guests to turn their rolls pink for a purpose. For every sushi roll made with a pink soy wrap, the brand will donate $1 to the Breast Cancer Fund of Ohio (BCFO).

In partnership with BCFO, one hundred percent of donations collected by FUSIAN will go to breast cancer treatment, keeping patients focused on healing while ensuring assistance stays local. Inside restaurants, guests can also share that same spirit of support by leaving handwritten messages on pink post-it notes, creating a wall of encouragement that honors survivors and loved ones while giving a visible voice to the cause.

“We want to do something that feels authentic to FUSIAN and is genuinely impactful, as everyone knows someone who has been affected by breast cancer,” said Stephan Harman, co-founder of FUSIAN. “By choosing a pink roll, our guests have the power to support the strength and resilience of patients right here in Ohio.”

FUSIAN is known for its quality-forward, signature 10-piece rolls like Spicy Tuna, Crispy Shrimp and the creative PB+J, as well as a build-your-own menu of rolls, bowls and salads made with directly sourced proteins, vibrant veggies and house-made sauces like creamy togarashi and chili ponzu. The menu offers gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options, making sushi accessible to all tastes and lifestyles.

FUSIAN Returns Home To Open Restaurant #6

May 27, 2015 By Lisa Grigsby

11143467_1097496070265787_1872570988225188450_nAs first announced in February of 2014, a second FUSIAN location opens Thursday, May 28th in the brand new Oak Creek Crossing retail development.  This newly built  shopping center in SR-725 already is home to;

  • Zoup! – fast-casual soup concept restaurant with 12 rotating daily varieties and made-to-order salads and sandwiches. Opens May 14.
  • PetPeople – 4,500-square-foot store with high-quality, natural pet foods and supplies
  • Elements Massage– 2nd location for this therapeutic massage business

Coming Soon:

  • El Rancho Grande Restaurant – sit-down Mexican restaurant – Opening soon
  • Whole Foods – 45,000-square-foot store is this specialty grocer’s first Dayton-area location – Opening June 3rdFullSizeRender 6

The quick serve sushi concept opened their first restaurant in 2010 and the Washington Township store is the 2nd Dayton location, with 3 in the Cincinnati market and 1 currently in Columbus, with 3 more scheduled to open still this year.  In 2016 they’ll add at least 2 more in Cincinnati and when we asked owners Zack and Josh Weprin and Steve Harman, who are UD grads, about more in Dayton we got no answer but a sly grin, which I guess means more to come.  “We love Dayton… it’s where we grew up, and it’s where we consider home. Our continued efforts to bring our food and our company to new markets would not be possible without supportive communities, a great team, and amazing customers!”

A 10 piece sushi roll will set you back about $8 and you can add a  cucumber or seaweed salad or edamame side to your meal for just a few dollars more. Just like at Chipotle,  you move down the line to custom build your roll,  starting with a seaweed or soy wrapper, brown or white rice, choose a protein, salmon, chicken, shrimp, tuna, crab mix or tofu, then add veggies of your choice and top off with a sauce.  The food at FUSIAN is always fresh and sourced locally when possible.

fusian-04According to FUSIAN HR Manager Teresa Perretta 25 new team members were added to the FUSIAN family to open this location.  She said “staffing it was easy, we’ve had a wait list at the Brown Street store for 2 years.  Finding a crew that is passionate about what we do it makes all the difference in the world to us. We’re all about community and transparency, which is why this new design is a prototype for all our new builds now.  You can see from the front door to the kitchen and that’s purposeful.”

If the soft opening was any indication, we expect FUSIAN will be packed from the moment it opens its doors at 11am to 10pm seven days a week.  The 58 seat eater will donate all proceeds tomorrow from 6-8pm to Crayons To Classrooms.   And be sure and check out their  Olive + FUSIAN COLLAB Sushi Roll which results in a $1 donation to Crayons To Classroom for each one sold.

Olive + FUSIAN COLLAB Sushi Roll Benefit Crayons to Classrooms!!

May 11, 2015 By Lisa Grigsby

11169991_1088419841173410_4834251387783278191_n-2Fusian, locally owned and operated by UD Graduates Zach and Josh Weprin and Stephan Harman, launched a new collaboration series aka. the COLLAB SERIES  this past January in Cincinnati.  This spring they looked to Dayton for a partner!  The COLLAB SERIES features rolls inspired by like-minded chefs and restaurants in the community. It creates opportunities for us to continually infuse our menu with flavors of the world. With each collaboration, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to a local organization.

It makes total sense they’ve partnered with Kimberly Collett’s  Olive, an urban dive.  Together they present a  mediterranean inspired roll featuring house roasted kalamata olives, sundried tomatoes, Dorothy Lane Market’s pancetta, and Olive’s signature patio-herb dressing.

Proceeds from this fusianxolive roll will benefit Dayton-based Crayons to Classrooms, a free store for teachers from under-funded K-12 schools that serve children living in poverty in Ohio’s Miami Valley.  Through June 30, DC2C will receive $1 from each featured signature sushi roll sold at Fusian at 1200 Brown Street and their new store opening soon at Oak Creek Crossing at McEwen Road and Miamisburg-Centerville Road.

Second FUSIAN Location Coming to Centerville

February 26, 2014 By Dayton Most Metro Leave a Comment

1662075_802077903140940_58978525_nFUSIAN, a fan-favorite fast-casual sushi restaurant, will open a Centerville location in the Spring of 2015.  The new location will occupy 1800 square feet at Oak Creek Crossing, a mixed-use retail development on SR-725 that will also be home to Whole Foods.  “When finding real estate it’s all about timing,” said Co-Founder, Zach Weprin. “We’ve been very patient and strategic in the Dayton area, and we think we’ve found the perfect spot for our brand. It’s been worth the wait.”

Founders Stephan C. Harman, Zach Weprin and Josh Weprin.

Founded in 2010, by Dayton natives Josh Weprin, Zach Weprin and Stephan Harman, FUSIAN has become a favorite not only for its new take on sushi, but also for it’s commitment to the local community, sustainability, and a superior sushi dining experience. In the last year-and-a-half, they have created a Sushi in Schools program which serves sushi to 18 regional High School cafeterias. “It’s created an amazing bond between us and our communities,” says co-founder Josh Weprin. “We created something that has united kids, their parents, school administrators, and FUSIAN through something that is very familial; food. It’s been nothing short of amazing!” “Dayton is where we grew up!” said co-founder Stephan Harman. “With our store on Brown Street and now a store in Centerville, our roots are only getting stronger here.”

FUSIAN positions itself in the fast-casual arena as an accessible option for both sushi veterans and newcomers alike. Diners are offered traditional and modern sushi rolls with signature proteins such as raw tuna, salmon, and yellowtail as well as roasted chicken and braised steak. “We like to tell people, if you love sushi, you’ll love FUSIAN, if you’ve never had sushi, you’ll love FUSIAN!” says Josh Weprin, “It’s our way to encourage people to rethink sushi.” FUSIAN is committed to sourcing superior ingredients, promoting positive health, and affirming social responsibility. Additionally, FUSIAN accommodates diners with most food allergies and dietary restrictions, including gluten-free, as well as offering vegan, and vegetarian options.

479852_607056205976445_1263526897_nThe founders set out to create a place where discerning diners could eat everyday. They sought a place that broke down sushi stereotypes and misconceptions in an engaging and interactive environment. On the FUSIAN experience, co-founder Stephan Harman expressed that, “It starts with what your eating but it doesn’t stop there…” he adds, “You’ve got five senses, and we feel that the FUSIAN experience is best crafted when you use all of them. We like good music, great food, and great attitudes… it’s what unites our customers with our team, our food, and our community.”

FUSIAN has accrued many accolades regionally including, “Dayton’s Best Sushi” in 2012, 4 Best of Cincy mentions and one of the Cincinnati Regional Chamber of Commerce’s “Top 10 under 10” in 2011.

BEST OF VEGAN IN DAYTON

January 21, 2013 By Dayton Most Metro 1 Comment

422564_337038939672014_1676918351_n
2012 was such a busy year for *
Vegans in Dayton*! I couldn’t have anticipated the amount of good things that came to us this year. We have a lot to celebrate! We saw the opening of Fusian, the rise of Ghostlight Coffee and Thistle Confections (including the opening of the Second Street Market location), and businesses like Three Leee Cupcakery and Sweets by Ashley. Our favorite restaurants continued to excite us, such as the addition af vegan pancakes at Butter Cafe, and menu revisions from Lucky’s, Olive, an Urban Dive, and Sunrise Cafe.

In 2012, we said a sad farewell to Amici’s and their glorious pizza, and wished that Bombshell Bakeshop’s indefinite hiatus would end already! We suffered through intense sugar cravings at coffeehouses, and now have expanded options at Ghostlight Coffeehouse!(Press is slated to have Harvest Moon Creations treats sometime soon, but the date has not been set yet.)

2013 is promising to be a great year, with Linh’s Bistro (opened up Jan 1 and moved from the old location), Shish Wraps (opening sometime soon?), and Harvest Moon Creations working on opening a vegan bakery store-front in Xenia in Spring or Summer 2013! I may also get to weigh in on a new restaurant that may be opening in the Oregon District later this year!

Without any further ado, let’s review the best vegan experiences we had in Dayton in 2012!

olivediveBEST OVERALL RESTAURANT FOR VEGAN FOOD

Olive, an Urban Dive claimed the prize this year! People love their business ethics, their flair, and their dedication to delicious food. Of particular fanfare is the falafel burger, their weekend scrambled tofu brunch, and their socca-bread pizzas. They also do salads and soups quite well. They balance the art of local, fresh fare with dazzling flavors and exciting vegan protein. I give them major props for all the efforts they go through to serve the vegans in this town, especially as some of the menu items change from season to season. Our hats go off to the chefs and owners who dream up the great dishes that both vegans and non-vegans enjoy! (They also won second place in the Best Vegan Burger / Sandwich!)

BEST LOCAL VEGAN BAKERY

534644_10151103945281790_1410193201_n

Cookies & Cream cupcakes from Harvest Moon Creations

This was the closest battle of them all, and I must declare a tie between Thistle Confections and Harvest Moon Creations! Both have a loyal following and have worked hard to ensure excellent ingredients and fresh, lovely baked goods that we feel great eating.

BEST PLACE TO GET LOCAL VEGAN BAKED GOODS

Butter Cafe easily landed this prize, with their always-stocked cases of Harvest Moon Creations cupcakes, twinkies, and cookies. Their hours are convenient, parking is easy, the hosts are super-friendly, and the cupcakes come in the cutest pink boxes!

BEST COFFEEHOUSE FOR DRINKS

I was extremely surprised to see yet another tie! This time, between Press Coffeebar and Ghostlight Coffee. Both have excellent ambiance, fantastic drinks, and are striving to meet vegan needs in 2013. As I love both and visit both regularly, I was actually very happy about this tie. Congrats!

storeBEST VEGAN BRUNCH

Butter Cafe blew everyone else away! Perhaps it’s the vegan breakfast burrito, or maybe it’s the vegan blueberry pancakes. Maybe it’s because vegan dessert (usually elusive) is just around the corner in a chilled case. I love Butter Cafe, and am very happy to see that they won!

BEST VEGAN BURGER / SANDWICH

Lucky’s landed this prize, probably for their house-made seitan sandwich. Pair that with their sweet potato or shoestring fries, made in their dedicated vegan fryer, or a house salad with vegan ranch, or any number of great sides and apps, as well as the best beer on tap selection in town (my opinion there).  Congrats to Lucky’s for their continual improvement as well as being second place in the Best Overall Restaurant for Vegan Food!

BEST VEGAN FOOD IN AN ASIAN RESTAURANT

thai9-1Thai 9 won this award hands down! Perhaps it’s because of all their vegan curries, or their choice of tofu, mock duck, or mock pork. Their sushi is excellent, and the decor is lovely. Service there is always charming as well. Linh’s came in second place, and I believe they hold a distinction of being the best non-Thai restaurant in town. In years past, I separated these two categories, and will do so in the future.

BEST VEGAN MEXICAN

Taqueria Mixteca won by a longshot yet again! Congrats to a great restaurant! I absolutely love their taco salad and their fajitas
(ask for no cheese or sour cream) and their guacamole.

Thanks to the hundreds of people who took the survey! I got a ton of great comments and suggestions. I’ll do my absolute best to get your comments to restaurants in the next month. Thanks for the kind words, and for making Dayton and the world a better place. You’re doing it right!

Sushi Coming To Brown Street

September 21, 2011 By Dayton Most Metro 1 Comment

Introducing FUSIAN, brilliantly fresh and cleverly affordable, this self-described “easy.casual.sushi” eatery is set to open in a mere two weeks on the University of Dayton campus. The new opening at University Place 1200 Brown Street adjacent to Pot Belly Sandwich Works and across from Panera Bread is the second home of FUSIAN, whose original store has been satisfying sushi-loving Cincinnatians since its opening in 2010.

Colorful, comfortable and exceptionally environmentally friendly, this interactive sushi eatery was created by three childhood friends and Oakwood Alumni with the inspiration to create “simple, fresh and affordable sushi dining.” Stephan Harman and brothers Josh Weprin and Zach Weprin founded FUSIAN to negate the myth that fast, casual food, while oftentimes delicious, must always be awful for your body. Instead, the trio wanted to create wholesome, healthy food made from fresh, local ingredients that could be as fantastic on your waistline as it was for your taste buds. Not to mention, FUSIAN’s menu items are all $10 or less, a blessing upon the wallet of a college kid as well as the everyday famished customer.

I spoke with co-founder and University of Dayton Alum (’08) Stephan Harman who explained FUSIAN as “Feel good food,” adding that FUSIAN is an experience where customers “Eat with their eyes”. FUSIAN’s diverse menu, which offers organic, locally grown, and vegan/vegetarian-friendly ingredients as well as seasonal items such as strawberries, peaches and mangos certainly caught my eye as well as my appetite. FUSIAN creates an enjoyable, fun experience for each customer, setting the fresh ingredients right in front of the ordering individual, Subway/Chipotle-style. Their customizable, “build-to-order” sushi rolls and all-natural bubble smoothies have also won several prestigious awards including a “Best of Cincinnati” mention last year as well as this year’s recognition by the Cincinnati Regional Chamber of Commerce as one of  “Cincinnati’s Top 10 Companies under 10 Employees.”

“We are not your typical sushi restaurant,” said Co-founder Zach Weprin. “We serve many modern alternatives in addition to traditional raw options such as soy wraps filled with braised steak and baked chicken along with fresh vegetables.” With a menu as lively and delicious as FUSIAN, it’s not difficult to believe that the founders like Stephan Harman have never tried the same roll twice.

In regards to their brand new location on UD’s campus, Harman explained, “We love Dayton. We’ve received a tremendous amount of support from our friends and family in Dayton and feel that UD is an ideal place for us to share our brand, our food, and our lifestyle with the community.” The trio-team has made sushi not only affordable but also highly convenient in a strip with a constant bustle of people previously devoid of sushi. FUSIAN’s fresh presence upon Brown Street’s dining avenue has already created an eager buzz among curious college students and Dayton inhabitants alike.

“We’re very excited to bring FUSIAN to Dayton and to be a part of our hometown community, said Co-founder Josh Weprin. “We think businesses can and should have a positive impact in the communities they serve.” The establishment of a friendly, social dining experience with plenty of nearby seating, a happily helpful staff, and handpicked music playing all the while, Dayton is sure to be captivated by FUSIAN’s atmosphere as well as its food. When asked what to order two weeks from now when FUSIAN graces Brown Street with its fresh and inventive presence, Stephan Harman encouraged, “Go crazy, get creative. If you like avocados, throw on some avocados. If you like crab, pick your crab. Look right in front of you and eat with your eyes, you can’t go wrong.”

As part of their pre-opening hype FUSIAN is running a facebook promo offering sushi for life.  The winner will receive one “roll” a week for the rest of the winner’s life.

FUSIAN will be located at 1200 Brown St.  Dayton OH, 45409.
