FUSIAN Serves Pink Sushi Rolls to Support Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October 6, 2025 By Dayton937

This October, FUSIAN is inviting guests to turn their rolls pink for a purpose. For every sushi roll made with a pink soy wrap, the brand will donate $1 to the Breast Cancer Fund of Ohio (BCFO).

In partnership with BCFO, one hundred percent of donations collected by FUSIAN will go to breast cancer treatment, keeping patients focused on healing while ensuring assistance stays local. Inside restaurants, guests can also share that same spirit of support by leaving handwritten messages on pink post-it notes, creating a wall of encouragement that honors survivors and loved ones while giving a visible voice to the cause.

“We want to do something that feels authentic to FUSIAN and is genuinely impactful, as everyone knows someone who has been affected by breast cancer,” said Stephan Harman, co-founder of FUSIAN. “By choosing a pink roll, our guests have the power to support the strength and resilience of patients right here in Ohio.”

FUSIAN is known for its quality-forward, signature 10-piece rolls like Spicy Tuna, Crispy Shrimp and the creative PB+J, as well as a build-your-own menu of rolls, bowls and salads made with directly sourced proteins, vibrant veggies and house-made sauces like creamy togarashi and chili ponzu. The menu offers gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options, making sushi accessible to all tastes and lifestyles.

Dayton’s $30,000 Cheesesteak

May 24, 2017 By Dayton937 Leave a Comment

2017 Super Duper Cheesesteak Champ, Clayton Naylor, with his daughter

Dayton has a $30,000 Cheesesteak .. and in 2017 it was a pink Food Adventure.  Let us explain….

It was standing room only in the Huber Heights Submarine House Bar and Grill when Clayton Naylor chomped the competition last month.   He downed a 16 inch Super Duper Cheesesteak in the official time of one minute and 55 seconds, leaving all other store champions still chewing their food.  Clayton pocketed a grand, and got a 2017 Championship belt and trophy. He hugged his daughter and posed for pictures afterwards.  It was his 2nd championship, having won the event 2 years earlier.

Clayton said his nutrionist and trainer wasn’t happy about him eating the cheesesteak, but he he told them it is only 3 times a year …. so lighten up Francis.

Jason Danner holds up a $30,000 donation check to PInk Ribbon Girls

You would think that was enough excitement for one day at the Submarine House.  You would be wrong.  Earlier they announced the proceeds from their 2017 Super Duper Cheesesteak challenges would benefit the Pink Ribbon Girls, a Dayton charity helping local women with breast cancer.

Food Adventures is happy to have been a part of this challenge for the past few years.  In the past, we have watched Submarine House donate checks of $15,000+ and $17,000+ to local charities like Dayton Children’s Hospital,  This year, the Submarine House owners, Brody Danner and Jason Danner, were about to blow those numbers away.

This year, the Danner family, Submarine House and the Cheesesteak challenge raised  $30,000 for The Pink Ribbon Girls.

The crowd cheering on their favorite eaters

The crowd went bezerk as they held the huge “check” up for the people to see, and presented it to Heather Salazar – Executive Director from the Pink Ribbon Girls.

The event has turned into a day long celebration.  The Huber Heights locale hosted a beer tent, a bouncy house and live bands afterwards.  It was a day and an evening to celebrate a big donation to a great cause.

Let this be a reminder to you that in 2018 to support the Super Duper Cheesesteak Challenge when it rolls around again in January through March of next year.

In the heat of competition

These charity dollars support and directly affect real families in the Dayton area and are making a big difference in families’ lives.  Support local businesses that give back generously to local charities.

The Submarine House is one example of those places.  We look forward to next year’s challenges and congratulate all involved with this successful charity event.

It’s Time To Get “TIEBER TOUGH”

December 13, 2016 By Lisa Grigsby

tieberThat nasty C word.  I hear it and just shake my head.  Especially when I hear it associated with a women who is nothing but kind and strong and a marvelous mother.

Suzie Tieber, mom to Sydney and Chase, wife of Steve and co-owner of The Dublin Pub has been diagnosed with Cancer.  She’ll be undergoing a double mastectomy on Wednesday morning.

Sydney’s  7th grade girls basketball team at Bellbrook Middle School was to play Preble Shawnee HS/MS tonight and the plan was  to present her with a special shirt made for her hospital stay five minutes before the game began.   They team was to then unveil as a surprise the special ‘Tieber Tough’ jersey which they would all  wear and dedicate the game to Suzie.

Additionally, over 300 T-shirts were made with the same ‘Tieber Tough‘ logo that friends and family will wear, sending pictures & messages to Suzie on her “Lets Support Suzie Tieber” Facebook event page. The shirts were donated by Ty Camacho from Miami Valley Team Sports and a donation has been asked for each shirt.

But alas Mother Nature put a kabash on that plan and the game was cancelled tonight due to the snow.

But let’s still show Suzie we support her and post the Tieber Tough image on your page in support of Suzie, who is indeed Tieber Tough.  And if you happen to someone who prays, some kind words to the big guy to support her and her family through tomorrow’s surgery and her healing ahead would be appreciated.

Guest Post: Stephanie Hicks Shares What October Means To Her

October 2, 2014 By Guest Contributor

stepaniehicks2

Guest Contributor Stephanie Hicks

For many, October signifies the start of fall… People begin enjoying pumpkin “everything” and start thinking up amazing Halloween costumes. While I, too, partake in pumpkin latte, cheesecake, pie, cookies, etc. binge eating, and spend hours online trying to find the perfect, creative costume for my son, I also celebrate my wedding anniversary and my husbands birthday (along with eight other birthdays in our family).

But this year, October means something more than fall flavored goodies and special days… This year I’ve come to recognize that October is “Breast Cancer Awareness” month.

During this past year, both my mom and my younger sister (age 26) had breast cancer scares. Within a few short months, they each found lumps in their breasts, had ultrasounds, mammograms, biopsies, and eventually surgery. Waiting for results for my mom and baby sister proved to be one of the hardest moments of my life. Every worst case scenario would constantly fly through my head: What would I do with out my mom? What would I do with out my best friend/sister? Henry (my son) hasn’t spent enough time with them.

After what seemed to be the longest waits ever, both my mom and sister received negative results and a huge weight was lifted off of my shoulders (and theirs as well).
Round-Breast-Cancer-Mo-Logo
We thought that our family had dodged a bullet and we were in the clear, but not long after my mom and sisters happy news did we receive the opposite from my aunt.

Aunt Donna has always been like a second mom to me, and the moment we found out she was diagnosed with breast cancer, I feel like a little piece of me died. How could this even be happening? The three most important women in my life were faced with this incredible fear, and now my Aunt’s nightmare was coming true.

Aunt Donna, wife and mother of three, and proven to be even stronger than I ever believed possible. She underwent surgery to have one of her breasts removed, continued working during her chemotherapy, and even moved my grandmother into her home so she could take better care of her.
images-1
Not once did she complain”why me” or show the world how scared or tired she was. She is the epitome of what a breast cancer survivor is.

On Wednesday, October 1st (the start of Breast Cancer Awareness month), Aunt Donna had her last chemo session. She will have to continue with radiation before they can reevaluate her condition, but in the mean time we could not be more proud of her.

On Saturday, October 18th, my family and I will be walking in the “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” at Fifth Third Field in Dayton, OH. While I know it’s too much to ask for everyone to join our team and walk with us, I ask that you contribute something to this cause, as every donation matters.

Here is the link for you to join our team “Save Second Base” or to make a donation.
