National Sandwich Day is Thursday, November 3rd. The unofficial holiday honors John Montagu, the fourth Earl of Sandwich, on his birthday. According to legend, the contemporary sandwich was created when Montagu’s attendants sandwiched meat inside two slices of bread so that the Earl could eat his lunch while gambling.
