Country Music Sensation Jamey Johnson at JD Legends

May 16, 2018 By Dayton Most Metro

Country music artist Jamey Johnson is returning to JD Legends in Franklin for 2 nights this weekend.  After playing 5 years of sold out shows in a row, he’s coming back to JD Legends, this time for a 2-night set! May 19th is already sold out, so be sure to get your tickets for the May 20th 4:30pm show.

Hailing from Montgomery, Alabama, Jamey Johnson has been passionate about country music since a very young age. While serving in the US Marine Corps Reserve for eight years, Jamey would often play music to entertain the troops and his friends. Upon finishing his Marine service, he set out to pursue a career in country music. By 2000, he procured a gig opening for country legend David Allan Coe. This was just the beginning of Jamey’s long, successful musical career. After working closely with other well-known acts such as Gretchen Wilson, Trace Adkins, and Hank Williams, Jr., Jamey’s solo career began to take off.
In 2006, Jamey’s first single, The Dollar peaked at number 14 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs. Two years later, after helping to write multiple hits for George Strait and Trace Adkins, Jamey experienced more personal success with his single In Color, reaching number 9 on the country charts. Since then, he has experienced sustained success on the country charts and in top-tier music venues nationwide. He’s even collaborated with non-traditional acts such as Allison Kraus and Elvis Costello, sharing his passion with a wide variety of artists across many genres.
From early favorites such as The Dollar to Top 10 hits like In Color, Jamey will be playing all of the songs that you want to hear at JD Legends. He’s also been working hard at writing and producing new tunes, so fans should be in for a treat as he puts forth a blend of old favorites and debuts fresh songs. If his past shows are any indication, Legends will be rocking all night long and no fans will be going home disappointed after a night of dancing, singing, and enjoying the heartfelt country tunes of Jamey Johnson.

DAI Auditorium renamed Mimi and Stuart Rose Auditorium

May 9, 2018 By Dayton Most Metro

The Dayton Art Institute held a special dedication and ribbon cutting today for its newly renovated auditorium.

The museum also announced the auditorium has been renamed the Mimi and Stuart Rose Auditorium in honor of a generous gift from the Dayton-area philanthropists to help fund the renovations.

“Our auditorium is one of the most beautiful performance spaces in the region, thanks to the vision of Julia Shaw Carnell, who funded the construction of our historic museum building in the 1920s,” The Dayton Art Institute’s Director & CEO Michael R. Roediger said. “With this generous gift from Mimi and Stuart Rose, it’s now received a much-needed transformation for the 21st century.”

“A great building like this needed a modernized auditorium – something that was more usable,” Mimi and Stuart Rose said. “We never dreamed it would be such a beautiful update. It’s a very rich and warm space now–very welcoming.”

Renovation work included: the sound system and lighting were upgraded or replaced; the cork floors, carpeting and seating were replaced; the stage floor was sanded and refinished; the wood doors, trim and stage front were reconditioned; floor vent covers were removed, refinished and reinstalled; the marble walls were cleaned and polished; and the stage curtains were removed for repair and cleaning, which included stabilizing the circa-1931 curtain and valance. In addition, backstage video monitoring and three CCTV cameras were installed, and an ADA Lift to offer ADA access to the stage will also be installed.

The Mimi and Stuart Rose Auditorium, originally known as the Music Room and later the NCR Renaissance Auditorium, was an integral part of The DAI’s historic museum building when it opened in January 1930. It quickly became the home to many organizations and community events. Most notably, it was the first stage for Dayton Ballet, which is the second-oldest ballet company in the United States. Many Daytonians also remember having their piano and dance recitals here as children, as well as having their graduations in the auditorium.

Today, the auditorium is used for a variety of programs, from performances by Dayton Contemporary Dance Company and the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, to film premiers, organ concerts, and corporate meetings, weddings and events.

“I am proud to say that we have updated the auditorium to make it state-of-the-art, while keeping the original beauty and charm,” Roediger said. “The Mimi and Stuart Rose Auditorium is a place of celebration that we anticipate will become an even more sought-after venue.”

“From educational programming, to social events, to the great art that hangs on the walls and the special exhibitions, The DAI is a centerpiece of the community,” the Roses said. “It brings people together, and that is so important here in Dayton–bringing people from all different ages and diverse backgrounds together for all of the programs. There’s always something great happening at the museum, and anyone who wants to participate can do so.”

Throughout the years, Greentree has donated more than $1 million in direct contributions and in-kind services to dozens of organizations and efforts, including Dayton Art Institute, FLOC, BOGG, TAC Industries and Wright State University Foundation. Since 2018 is Greentree’s 25th year in business, it’s holding monthly contests and drawings with employees. On behalf of the winners, Greentree donates $1000 to the winner’s favorite charity. The owners of Greentree have even awarded several full one-year scholarships to deserving Wright State University students.

Today, BBB-Dayton is one of the most successful BBBs and membership associations in all of North America, larger and more impactful and relevant than many in markets much larger than our own. The efforts of Dave Donaldson and WesBanco helped launch success and turn this BBB into the organization that it is today. They assisted by providing financial resources necessary to navigate through the tough economic times that began in 2008.
John North, president/CEO of BBB serving Dayton and the Miami Valley, says, “Tonight is a milestone for our organization as we celebrate honoring integrity in our marketplace for 25 years. Tonight’s honorees join the ranks of the spectacular honorees we’ve recognized through the years. They set the example for us today and will guide us in the future. Dayton River Jam

May 4, 2018 By Dayton Most Metro

Spring has sprung and nothing cures some monday blues like some surfing! No entry fee, no prizes, just surf and have fun. End of the session I figure we can all throw a name in the hat to vote for best trick, best surf style, and best wipeout. What you win is bragging rights and a good time with fellow riverrats!

SUP surfing, prone surfing if level is good enough, kayaks…doesnt matter. Yes I’m just pulling this completely out of thin air last minute but I want to rally everyone and show off our whitewater community and whitewater features.
