Children need to see themselves reflected in the stories they read. This need is especially true for children of color. Join best-selling author and award winning author, Valerie J. Lewis Coleman for a workshop session discussing how the lack of representation in literature can have damaging influence on children’s self-esteem and their ability to connect with the world around them. Participants will receive handouts, ink pens and resource materials.
Whether it’s board games or video games, join other teens for a night of fun and gaming! For grades 7-12.
At this fun afterschool program kids get to listen to a book, study an artist’s works, and create a related artwork!
In February, we’re studying great Black artists. For example, one week we will read a biography of Edmonia Lewis, view a digital gallery of her famous sculptures, and create our own sculptures using air-dry clay.
