Bessies HomeMade Noodles Closes Fairborn Deli

June 8, 2022 By Dayton937

Bessies HomeMade Noodles that opened in Fairborn in February of this year, in Fairborn has shut its retail doors.
Owner Monica Easterling and her husband bought the building two years ago to use for manufacturing, but the front had previously been set up as a butcher shop and they thought it would be a great addition to their fair and grocery noodle business
Bessie was Monica’s great-grandmother. She passed away more than a 35 years ago, but Monica remembers learning to make the egg noodles by her side using the simple recipe of flour, water, eggs and “foo-foo dust,” as Monica calls the secret seasoning that makes Bessie’s so popular.
Here’s the announcement they posted on their Facebook page:
“Our deli is now permanently closed. Our building will be used for our manufacturing and distribution and is not open to the public. Thank you for those of you who came out to support us. However, it was not enough to keep it open. You may still purchase our noodles at your local grocery store in the freezer section.”
Sincerely,
Matt & Monica Easterling
You’ll still find Bessie’s noodles at fairs and festivals around town and in the frozen cases at Kroger or Dorothy Lane Market or your local grocery store.

Patrick Reed is a retired Dayton Fire Captain and owner of Angie’s Firehouse Tavern. Angie’s first opened as a Hungarian restaurant in 1938. It was a Belmont institution, famous for its cabbage rolls, until it shut down in the 1990’s. Pat Reed re-opened the neighborhood icon in 2009, as Angie’s Firehouse Tavern.

Captain Reed has loved owning this gem, but he is now ready to pass this historic landmark on to the next owner.  Best known for delicious Hungarian style cabbage rolls, the recipe conveys to the new owner along with abundance of memorabilia, phone booth, smoker and trailer for off site events, kitchen equipment, liquor license, cigarette, and ATM machines and much more.

The bar side 52’x16’ boasts charming bar and if these walls could talk, the stories they could tell of the wonderful stories of yester year and present-day life.

The patrons are treated like family, and they always come back for more… Upstairs you will find offices and 2 – 1-bedroom apartments for additional income or live right above your fantastic venture.

Wendy’s Strawberry Frosty Has Arrived

June 6, 2022 By Dayton937

Starting today, June 6, and for the first time nationally, the Strawberry Frosty will be available for a limited time, joining the Chocolate Frosty in our famous Frosty lineup.

Wendy’s Strawberry Frosty merges the same creamy, delectable profile you know and love in a classic Vanilla Frosty with the sweet flavor profile of a freshly picked strawberry. Each spoonful is a thick and flavorful bite that will keep you cool on even the hottest days.

I said “spoonful,” because the Frosty was created to be eaten with a spoon. The spoon-ready consistency falls perfectly between a milkshake and soft-serve ice cream, which is what makes it such an iconic dessert.

And did you know the Frosty has been a staple on the Wendy’s menu since the first restaurant opened in 1969? It was actually one of the five original menu items, meaning Wendy’s has been delivering this one-of-a-kind treat to ice cream lovers for over 50 years.

Showcasing their commitment to Fast Food Done Right, the new Strawberry Frosty is shaking up the in-restaurant, delivery and drive-thru dessert game. Whether you’re on your way to the beach or an afternoon picnic, I promise you’ll be tempted to pull over and pick one up on the way. For the most dynamic flavor experience, however, you’ll want to dip Wendy’s reimagined Hot & Crispy Fries into the Strawberry Frosty. It’s a sweet and salty creation unlike anything you’ve ever tasted.

June 2, 2022 By Dayton937

The festival started out very small in 1977 and has grown every year. The family oriented affair has been self-supporting from the start with the help of many Troy area businesses sponsoring specific events. Today, the event is a community wide effort involving thousands of volunteers organized by a committee of over 40 men and women. It generates enough income each year to finances a host of community service projects.

The above information is the key to the Troy Strawberry Festival’s success – just everyday folk turning their time, talents, and energy into a fun, family community event that attracts over 200,000 visitors each year to the Troy area.

Chika Wings Open On 201 in Huber Heights

May 31, 2022 By Dayton937

Brothers in law Adam Price and Kyle Smith have opened Chika Wings, in the location that most recently housed Wiley’s Wings, Tenders and Fries in Huber Heights. Since the concept is pretty similar, they didn’t need to do much remodeling.  On the exterior they changed the color and added some new neon, leaving the Wings Tenders Fries up form the previous owners.

They had a short lived first place in Springfield, but closed it in May due to lack of foot traffic and to concentrate on opening this Huber Heights location. Having a drive through should be a game changer for Chika Wings.

Here’s a sample menu for their original restaurant, haven’t see one for the new place, which is celebrating their grand opening today until 11pm.

Soft Opening for Mode X at The Greene

May 26, 2022 By Lisa Grigsby

After much anticipation, General Manager Oscar Oscar Rodriguez is opening the doors to  introduce real, authentic Mexican food with over 100 tequila’s to the Miami Valley. He’s quick to point out that this is not Tex-Mex food.

Chef Rene is from Mexico City and is proud to bring his recipes to the eatery. With a scratch kitchen there will be plenty of options for vegetarians and vegan as well as gluten free eaters.

Staffed up with about 50 employees and 5 managers, Rodriguez says he’s got a passionate staff that wants to truly take care of their guests while serving them great food.

Initially they will be only opening for dinner service from 5-10pm and one he feels the staff is ready, he’ll add lunch and late night hours.

A much more upscale decor, than the previous Bar Louie that occupied the space, there are 28 seats at the bar, a private seating area for bout 40 and enough tables to seat up to 200. The patio is still a work in progress and will open later this summer.

Once Rodriguez feels the kitchen has mastered the current menu, they will introduce a late night menu that caters to the after movie crowd and those looking for a social scene, that runs from about 9pm – midnight.

Reservations are encouraged using Open Table and for right now they are only taking parties of up to eight.

Christopher’s Closing

May 26, 2022 By Dayton937

Christopher’s Restaurant owners, Dave and Erika Krites, held an all- staff meeting on Thursday, May 26th, to share the unfortunate news with employees that the restaurant location would be closing effective June 15th, 2022. This announcement comes months after celebrating their 31-year anniversary at 2318 East Dorothy Lane and just five weeks before their current lease is set to expire.

“We find ourselves at a crossroads in our journey together with all of you,” Dave said. “After months of discussion with our landlord and one final attempt last week, we have been unable to reach mutually agreeable leasing terms with our landlord to stay in our current location.”

The Krites shared plans to continue to grow the Christopher’s catering business and its new event center, The Gem by Christopher’s, located in Riverside at 3425 Valley Street. “While we figure out what is next for the restaurant, we will continue to serve the community amazing food through our catering events and at The Gem, with some exciting new dinner and brunch offerings. And we hope to keep as many of our current employees as we can to help us do that.”

But they said the hunt for a new location to reopen the Christopher’s Restaurant continues.

“We were excited because we thought we had found the perfect place to relocate the restaurant – bigger, nicer, newer, outdoor patio, everything we wanted,” Erika said. “But we got nervous about what is happening in the economy.”

The couple went on to explain that significant premiums in construction and renovation costs, extended lead times on equipment from the global supply chain challenges, rising inflation and food costs, and local labor shortages made justifying the investment needed for immediate relocation “nearly impossible.” “But we’re not giving up!” they said.

Christophers in Kettering is where the art is displayed

Dave took to the Christopher’s Facebook business page to break the news to its customers. “Erika and I never dreamed how many great relationships we would begin and how many amazing new people would find and fill our little restaurant,” thanking his staff for their commitment through a challenging time, including the pandemic, and thanking their many loyal customers. “We appreciate each of you for helping us grow into what we are today, and we will look forward to serving you amazing food and amazing experiences again soon.”

“We hope to see you all one last time (or maybe a couple!) before we close this chapter at East Dorothy Lane.”

Christopher’s will honor all existing catering and event bookings and will continue to take new customers.

Any outstanding gift card balances for the restaurant can be redeemed for catering or event rental, and catering ordering minimums will be reduced to help accommodate this. They will begin several new buffet-style events open to the public at The Gem, including Prime Rib Night, Sunday Brunch, and a “Chef’s Feature” Buffet in coming weeks. Follow Christopher’s on Facebook or visit their website (www.christophers.biz) for more information.

Christopher’s Restaurant is a local, family-owned restaurant and caterer, serving the Dayton community amazing food and amazing experiences for the past 30+ years. Proudly offering new American fare and upscale, modern versions of your favorite homecooked, diner classics with plenty of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options. Weekend service includes our famous slow-roasted prime rib, some of the best prime rib in Dayton!
