This Kettering cafe has opened their doors this week in a limited-capacity launch before their official grand opening on Friday, Aug 30th. Owners Scott and Rebekah Allendevaux, with the help of their five children, Chris, Tim, Chara, Adin and Elora. They describe their business as a a European-style cafe, serving up coffee, tea and a small menu featuring salads and sandwiches as well as some gluten freesweet treats from Beavercreek’s Purely Sweet Bakery. Ordinarie Fare will provide plant-forward foods for the cafe.
Decorated with leather couches and chairs, and a section of tables, it’s warmth just invites you lean back and read a book in a lounge chair, grab a bite at a table, sit with your laptop at the bar, or laugh with friends at the couches. There are even a few patio tables outside.

Here’s a peak at the menu when I visited yesterday, though they did mention that they are subject to change during their trial period.

The breakfast menu includes oatmeal, breakfast sandwiches, bagels and pastries.

At a press conference held to day at the Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park, Centerville filmmaker Allen Farst made the announcement of his next feature film: The Flying Machine! Farst has optioned the book “The Bishop’s Boys:A Life of Wilbur and Orville Wright, written by Tom Crouch and will write the screenplay and direct the film. Previous films by Farst include Triangle Park, a documentary about the first NFL game,(which will stream on Amazon Prime in Sept) and Chuck Leavell: The Tree Man, an award winning documentary film about The Rolling Stones keyboardist.

Farst shares “the story of the Wright brothers serves as a beacon of inspiration, reminding us that with vision, perseverance, and a willingness to embrace failure as a stepping stone to success, anything is possible. Through the medium of film, this message can reach a global audience, igniting the spark of curiosity and ambition in the hearts of aspiring aviators and innovators around the world. In nearly 125 years [2028 is the anniversary of flight] there has not been one major motion picture about the Wright brothers until now and with your support we plan to change that!
But this isn’t just about planes—it’s about the human spirit reaching new heights. Our film captures the awe-inspiring triumphs and heart-wrenching setbacks of the Wright brothers’ who dared to chase the horizon. It’s a celebration of passion, perseverance, and the relentless pursuit of the impossible.

On hand to share their support, Amanda Wright Lane, Great Grand Niece of Orville and Wilbur Wright and Stephen Wright, Great Grand Son of Orville and Wilbur Wright. Amanda shared that basing this film on Tom Crouch’s book will give the world the big picture about the Wright Brothers. How be used a treasure trove of Wright family correspondence and diaries, Crouch skillfully weaves the story of the airplane’s invention into the drama of a unique and unforgettable family. He shows us exactly how and why these two obscure bachelors from Dayton, Ohio, were able to succeed where so many better-trained, better-financed rivals had failed. She’s sure Farst will be able to use the book to guide his film. “We are thrilled that Allen Farst and Palmar Studios are taking on one of the greatest stories of humankind,” Wright says.
Farst continued, “this isn’t just about planes—it’s about the human spirit reaching new heights. The community is invited to support The Flying Machine. Join a movement to honor the untold stories that shaped the skies we navigate today. Don’t let these tales of bravery and ingenuity fade into obscurity—help us bring them to life on the silver screen for the first time and inspire generations to come!”

Tonight was a friends and family preview night and I’ll admit my first visit to KPOT was a bit overwhelming, so many choices to make. Be sure and let your server guide you through the experience. Guests cook their own food at the table, either in a sunken grill or in boiling pots of soup on individual burners. You order plates of raw meats and veggies that are brought to the table, and then you grill or boil them to your preference. The menu is huge! You’ll find red meat, poultry, seafood, even delicacies like quail eggs, plus loads of veggies, both familiar and new. You can get just hotpot or bbq or both for just $5 more. You get two hours (you have a running clock on the tablet you order on) to cook as much meat as you can eat.We started with the hot pot. You order your soup base, choose from Thai Tom Yum Szechuan Spicy, Tomato Soup, Healthy Herbs, Japanese Miso, Korean Seafood, Mushroom or Gluten Free.
Select your base – if you don’t like the soup you choose it is OKAY. You are more than welcome to ask for a different soup and they’ll swap it out.
Choose any/all proteins– Don’t throw all the meat into the pot all at once. Take a couple pieces with your chopsticks and dip them into the soup. Sway it back and forth about 2-3 times until it is just done.
Order vegetables and noodles –Be prepared when adding flavor sponges (tofu, Napa cabbage) to spicy broths because they absorb heat and can become overwhelming to eat.
Each item you order gets delivered to you on a small black plate for you to add to your soup when you are ready.

Take a trip up to the sauce bar and choose sauces and toppings. You can get a small bowl to mix your own sauce, selecting chopped scallions, garlic, oyster sauce, ginger sauce olive oils, vinegar’s, sesame seeds, and other toppings to perfect your meal. Also some rotating appetizers, tonight there were spring rolls, kimchi, french fries, chicken wings and crab lets.

After a soft opening today, the official ribbon cutting for Austin Landing’s Taste of Belgium will be Tuesday, July 30th at 11:30am. With 116 seats inside, 30 at the bar and another 60 on the patio, this location is much larger than the one at The Greene. The eatery hired 50 employees, including a management team with experience from TJ Chumps and The Cheesecake Factory. There are even semi private rooms on the north side of the building for groups. This is the 10th location for this chain restaurant, with the majority and Cincinnati and one in Kentucky.

Jean-François Flechet
The regional restaurant chain is owned by Jean-François Flechet when he returned from his native Belgium in 2007 with a 120# cast iron waffle maker. His goal was to bring the waffles he cherished as a child to his new home in Cincinnati, Ohio. After refining his recipe, waffle baking began in the back of a produce store at Cincinnati’s historic Findlay Market. The store was crowded with waffle-lovers for weeks and he was asked to find a new home. Taste of Belgium was born. Soon after, the first ToB Bistro opened with traditional (and not-so-traditional) Belgian cuisine serving breakfast, brunch and dinner with Cincinnati’s finest beer lineup.
In 2023, Jean-François was inducted as an honorary knight by the Knighthood of the Belgian Brewers’ Paddle for his efforts in promoting Belgian beer and culture in the United States

Beto and his wife Qelja are following in the family business, opening Troni’s Pizza & Pasta in the spot that formerly housed Carmen’s Deli in the Stratacache Tower on North Main Street. Beto is the son of the late Jimmy Troni, who owned Jimmy’s Italian Kitchen in Kettering and Deroma Italian Restaurant in Huber Heights. When his dad died in 2015, he moved to Florida, which is where he grew up.

He returned to Dayton in fall of 2023 where he worked with his Aunt and Uncle at Demnika’s Italiano on S. Dixie Drive in Kettering. Most recently we helped his father’s best friend Mo Jusufi open Jimmy’s Italian Cuisine at 824 E. Fifth St this past May. All while working on getting his downtown eatery open. Beto shares it took him four months to clean up and and source the equipment needed to open his place.m He shared his landlord was very helpful during this time. He says he grew up making pizza’s and when he moved back, he sold his Troni’s Pizza in Delray Beach pizza shop to his younger brother to run.

When asked Beto shared he came back to the Miami Valley because “Dayton needed good pizza.” He’s excited about being a part of the neighborhood and creating local jobs.
Troni describe his pizza as “New York Style with a hand tossed crust that looks right at you when you hold it up to eat it.” He cuts the pizza’s into 6 huge pieces that sell for $5- $8 and he’ll offer different slices each day to grab and go, from the classics like pepperoni and sausage to gourmet pizza’s like chicken, bacon ranch, Southwest Spicy Chicken, Hawaiian and more. Of course you can also order a whole pie made to order.
Beto shared that when it comes to his food he doesn’t cut corners, he uses the best ingredients, something his father taught him, that makes for the best food.
Of course there’s more than pizza on the menu:

Be sure and save room from desserts, they offer cannolis, New York Stye Cheescake, chocolate Mousse and Tiramisu.
Be sure and take advantage of these specials and tell them DaytonDining sent you!

After closing down their Springfield Street location this past February, this morning at 7am Mason Schindler, Dexter Clay, also known as “Uncle Boof,” who owns Uncle Boof’s World Famous Pancake Mix and Zach Jeckering, opened the doors to their new restaurant on East Fifth Street in St. Anne’s Hill. With almost no fanfare, the eatery was packed when I visited this afternoon.
The new place will be open later and serve 6 days a week! The art on the walls is eclectic and colorful and each table also had a small dice/tee game on it to play while you are waiting on your food.

I had the Eggs N’ Stuff breakfast and added the sausage gravy to my tots and I left there stuffed! It was a lot of food for $10. Can’t wait to go back and try some of Uncle Boof’s World Famous Pancakes! They even have gluten-free waffles.

If you go visit, tell them Dayton Dining sent you.

Oysters are highly nutritious shellfish that offer a wide array of health benefits. They’re packed with high quality protein, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants — all of which benefit health.

East Coast oysters are known for their briny, salty, and complex flavor, with hints of seaweed, minerals, and sometimes butter. West Coast oysters are known for their sweet and fruity flavor, with notes of melon, cucumber, and citrus.
East Coast oysters are long and smooth, with a narrow base and tear drop shape. West Coast oysters are round with rough, fluted edges.
The size of the oyster doesn’t much matter, it’s a personal preference whether you look them big or small, but it should look full within the shell. A quality oyster won’t be too thin or too salty.
While some people believe you should let it slide down your throat without biting it, chewing it one or two times will allow you to get all the flavor.
While it’s not necessary to use condiments, and some people actually prefer their fish plain, there are a variety of garnishes that can add an extra pop of flavor! Lemon, cocktail sauce, or a shallot mignonette are all common choices. These all add a little zing, without completely overpowering the taste of the oyster.

In October of 2022 Table 33 announced they would be building out a new space on the first floor of the Arcade. But according to owner Charlie Carroll, those plans changed and yesterday he inked a deal with Cross Street Partners to take over the Est! Est! Est! space.
Space Table 33 is set to open at the Arcade in early fall 2024. With a dedication to local dishes and a community-centered environment, Table 33 aims to captivate diners with innovative dishes, a welcoming ambiance, and impeccable service. Dinner service will be from 4-9pm and the restaurant will be open 7 days a week.
The restaurant’s interior will undergo a transformation that will enhance the Table 33 brand and create a setting that invites guests to linger and savor each moment. Table service will be back and you can expect table cloths and linen napkins when they open. Table 33 plans to retain its current breakfast and lunch menu that showcases a blend of local flavors and inspirations with high-caliber options.

Charlie Carroll
“We could not be more excited about the future as Table 33 will be a part of our city’s history in the revitalization of the Arcade. This is an opportunity our parents and grandparents dreamed about, and we are honored to be a part of it”, said Charlie Carroll. With a refreshed management team, and a new Chef from Columbus who is “Michelin Star trained” and has a lot of international experience, that they expect to be able to present a menu that is more focused on their original farm to table concept. Their sous chef is vegan and will help them offer new options.
