Taste of Belgium Now Open at Austin Landing

July 29, 2024 By Lisa Grigsby

After a soft opening today, the official ribbon cutting for Austin Landing’s Taste of Belgium will be Tuesday, July 30th at 11:30am. With 116 seats inside, 30 at the bar and another 60 on the patio, this location is much larger than the one at The Greene.  The eatery hired 50 employees, including a management team with experience from TJ Chumps and The Cheesecake Factory. There are even semi private rooms on the north side of the building for groups. This is the 10th location for this chain restaurant, with the majority and Cincinnati and one in Kentucky.

Jean-François Flechet

The regional restaurant chain  is owned by Jean-François Flechet when he returned from his native Belgium in 2007 with a 120# cast iron waffle maker. His goal was to bring the waffles he cherished as a child to his new home in Cincinnati, Ohio. After refining his recipe, waffle baking began in the back of a produce store at Cincinnati’s historic Findlay Market. The store was crowded with waffle-lovers for weeks and he was asked to find a new home. Taste of Belgium was born. Soon after, the first ToB Bistro opened with traditional (and not-so-traditional) Belgian cuisine serving breakfast, brunch and dinner with Cincinnati’s finest beer lineup.

In 2023, Jean-François was inducted as an honorary knight by the Knighthood of the Belgian Brewers’ Paddle for his efforts in promoting Belgian beer and culture in the United States

The Frost Factory Now Open at Austin Landing

June 19, 2024 By Lisa Grigsby

It was first announced in August of 2022, and after a lot of hard work, patience and buying out an investor, this hand-crafted boozy (or not!) slushy hangout is finally open!

Owners Jamie and Kei Gregory, who’s first location opened in Liberty Township about 4 years ago, shared that they have 50 seats inside and an outdoor patio that can seat another 25 to 30 people.  Jamie tells us “we basically turn fun cocktails into frozen drinks.” Each drink is crafted with fresh ingredients and is made with in-house recipes concocted by the owners.  They also have dole whip, which you can get with booze, or without- perfect for the kids.

New drinks are crafted each season so the menu stays fresh. The have a full bar so you can order up your favorite cocktail or try one of their creations. Now that they are open, they will be adding some snacks, like chips & salsa and pretzels.  Here’s a peek at the current menu:

Humane Society of Greater Dayton To Expand

April 10, 2018 By Lisa Grigsby

Today, the Humane Society of Greater Dayton officially purchased land at 2673 Austin Blvd. in Miamisburg, near Austin Landing to build a new adoption center.

“This new facility will be a wonderful gathering spot for our community. We are excited to add a location that will be a place for all families to come and visit regardless if they are looking to adopt or just want to enjoy the amenities we will provide there,” said Brian Weltge, President and CEO of the Humane Society of Greater Dayton. “After many years of research and listening to the needs of our community, we have determined this high-traffic area will be a perfect location for our adoption center. We are excited for this next chapter in our organization’s 116-year history in serving the Miami Valley and look forward to helping to save even more lives through this expansion.”

The Humane Society of Greater Dayton purchased the land from the Miami Township Community Improvement Corporation for $572,000. This includes 3.8 acres of land as well as an approximately 10,000-square-foot structure, which they plan to repurpose to fit their needs. A large portion of the funding for this purchase came from estates that were set aside to support the organization’s growth initiative.

“The sale of this property to the Humane Society of Greater Dayton gives the township another avenue to provide quality services to the citizens in our community,” said Miami Township Board of Trustees President John Morris. “A piece of land that was once used for storage will now be a bustling place where we can all come together to help celebrate the bond between people and pets.”

Prior to building the new adoption center, the Humane Society of Greater Dayton plans to expand their current facility at 1661 Nicholas Road in Dayton to include a high-volume spay/neuter clinic, which in a few years time will be able to spay/neuter an estimated 20,000 animals each year. With their current facility, they are capped off around 4,000 surgeries annually. In addition, they also plan to build a needs-based, full-service animal hospital to act as a resource for those who have pets, but may need some assistance. At their current facility they are also building a structure to better house animals that come to our facility through cruelty and neglect investigations.

“We want to transform animal welfare in the Greater Dayton area with our vision for the future,” said Weltge. “We are thankful for the partnership we have created with the Miami Township Board of Trustees to purchase this land and look forward to this new site being a go-to spot to help all of the animal lovers in our community.”

In addition to the land purchased for the new facility, the Humane Society of Greater Dayton is partnering with Miami Township to address the stray cat problem plaguing their community. We will be offering a Community Cat Initiative where residents of Miami Township can rent humane traps from the shelter. These un-owned cats are then humanely trapped and brought to the Humane Society of Greater Dayton where they will be spayed/neutered and eartipped, an international symbol of a stray cat who has been altered. This will help lower the number of community cats reproducing in the township and provide a humane solution to residents.

The Humane Society of Greater Dayton is dedicated to building a community in which all animals are valued and free from suffering and family life is enhanced through the relationships with pets. Founded 116 years ago, it is the largest no-kill animal welfare agency in the Miami Valley. It focuses on pet adoptions, eliminating pet overpopulation, providing education and ensuring the humane treatment of all types of animals. For more information about the Humane Society of Greater Dayton, call (937) 268-PETS (7387) or visit www.hsdayton.org.

Food Adventure with American Idol Star, Alexis Gomez

May 27, 2016 By Dayton937 Leave a Comment

Alexis Gomez is a Food Adventures Fan !

Good things happen to good people. So is the case with local musician and national American Idol Star, Alexis Gomez.  Hard work and success has paid off for this fun natured, family loving young woman.  She is one of the nicest, down to earth people you could meet.  It isn’t every day that you get to go on a Food Adventure with a music star!

You may remember when she first stole America’s heart with her memorable TV debut, the audition scene where she “made it to hollywood”  HERE IS THE VIDEO.

Alexis took time out of her busy schedule to have lunch with us at one of her favorite spots, Boosalis Bakery in Crosse Pointe Center, Centerville.  Recently, she has been traveling to Nashville and Dayton to write and record music.  Alexis is also gearing up for a slew of concerts this summer ranging from Dayton area venues to the House of Blues, Cleveland!  Food Adventures sat down with Alexis, her mom and sister and of course we wanted to talk .. FOOD

But before we dive into that, let’s get to know one of Dayton’s upcoming stars and 2015 Amercian Idol Finalist..

Hand Tossed Cheese Pizza from Flying Pizza is a favorite

HERE’S THE SKINNY ON ALEXIS GOMEZ:

— She is a Dayton native who has been playing music and singing with her family her whole life.  She has many photos on her Instagram of early years playing shows, or rehearsing with her family.

— Very involved in her church, Alexis and her family believe in giving back to the community.  She has a strong spiritual upbringing, that has made her humble and well grounded, with a refreshing appreciation for life.

Food Adventure at Boosalis Baking & Cafe

— Alexis is definitely a foodie, and told us of her American Idol visits to some cities where she got to sample the area foods.  But many times, the contestants were served a strict diet, some of which included limited selections.   She laughed, telling us she doesn’t like mushrooms for breakfast.  But sometimes that was all they had to offer, so she was grateful when traveling and getting some “outside food.”

— How do you get her music?  EASY! Go to her ITUNES Page Here or her website AlexisGomezMusic.com

 — What’s next for Alexis? Look for more music from her and a busy 2016 tour scene, all over Ohio with a stop in Nashville and even the country of Poland.

From Dreams to Dreems & back again!

The Big Ragu, Hungry Jax and Chef House, talked food and took some yummy advice from this talented young lady…

Being in the top group for the 2015 American Idol, we thought it would be great for Alexis to tell us about her top 10 favorite places to eat in the Miami Valley, bar none ! SO without further delay…. here are her picks!

ALEXIS GOMEZ’ TOP 8 DAYTON FOOD PLACES:

1) DON PABLOS – Yes, we know it is a chain, but her Mexican roots call out to her current obsession – Don Pablo’s Prairie Fire Bean Dip.  There is a location near the Fairfield Commons Mall.

2) FLYING PIZZA:  She loves the hand tossed classic cheese pizza, a Dayton original!  Alexis also finds their breadsticks and cheese sauce irresistable.

Alexis Gomez  having lunch with some young fans

3) MI BURRITO MEXICAN GRILL:  Located at 8374 Princeton Glendale Road in Mason, Ohio, this place is a little known secret to Daytonians.   Alexis says it is worth the short drive for some amazing burritos, nachos and more Mexican specialties

.
4) AREPAS and CO.:  Sweet Choclo Arepas are her fave at this Columbian restaurant with 2 popular locations in the Dayton area
.

5) CITY BBQ:  Her “go to” is the Chicken Tenders with the

City BBQ, Centerville

Brushfire BBQ sauce!  Alexis hits up the downtown Centerville location, but there is another location in Beavercreek/Fairborn at 2330 N Fairfield Rd. for foodies in that area.

6) BOOSALIS BAKING and CAFE: Alexis told us about an incredible trademark menu item here, and she was right!  The Cranberry Turkey Sandwich served with homemade cranberry bread is one of the best sandwiches Food Adventures has ever eaten.  Also those Kouign Amann pastries, pronounced “Queen Amann,” are delicate, delicious buttery pastries, that are reminiscent of a croissant in a cupcake shape.  You gotta try this place in Cross Pointe Center!

Lock 27, home of an incredible Keener Burger made with local beef

7) LOCK 27 BREWING:  Alexis says the Keener Burger is the best bet here.  Chef House agrees !

Arepas and Co. is on of Alexis’ favorites too

.
10) ELE CAKE CO. BISTRO and WINE BAR:  Alexis frequents this bistro at Austin Landing for their Ratatouille dish.  It is a friendly and fun atmosphere at this little shop

Another Broken Egg Cafe Hatches At Austin Landing

November 9, 2014 By Lisa Grigsby

10703540_592031760902553_3038781791578685384_nAnother Broken Egg Cafe (ABEC) officially cracks its doors open Monday, November 10 at 7am at 3450 Rigby Road at Austin Landing.  The cafe bills itself as an upscale,  breakfast, lunch and weekend brunch restaurant and will be open daily until 2pm, closing only on Thanksgiving and Christmas.  The restaurant has seats for about 120 guests inside and when weather cooperates, they’ll have patio seating for another 36 guests.

LobsterOmelette

Lobster & Brie Omelette – Cream cheese filled omelette with Brie & sautéed lobster meat, topped with a light champagne butter sauce, diced tomatoes & scallions

I was lucky enough to take part in the sneak peek for charity, which served as practice dining for the staff  this past Thursday through Sunday and raised over $10,000 for United Rehabilitation Services.  We were able to sample the  Southern-inspired dishes, starting with appetizers such as biscuit beignets dipped in powdered sugar and honey marmalade, and baked brie delight with apples, pecans and raisins sauteed in Grand Marnier and butter over brie cheese and toasted French bread.

The company’s  philosophy that “Nothing Short of Right is Right” was on display at the preview.  With fresh faced, eager servers, managers that were quick to correct and nonstop visits to keep coffee mugs full, the service was payed serious attention.  As described on their website “Each restaurant is managed by hands-on owners who believe that every detail is important to make the customer happy. So from the time you enter the front door to the time you leave the Cafe, you should feel like you’re on a relaxing vacation and as comfortable as you would be in your own home.”

There are six varieties of eggs benedict, 11 gourmet omelette choices, an exceptional signature Bananas Foster over Belgian waffles, French toast or sweet potato pancakes, southern crabstack, along with handcrafted burgers, specialty sandwiches and fresh salads on the menu.

Prices on the menu vary from $3.29 for blackberry grits  to 10.99 for the fried green tomatoes appetizers, traditional egg breakfasts start at $7.69, omelettes range from $10- $15, salads, burgers and sandwiches run about $9-$12.

Furthermore, ABEC’s Healthy Side menu, which includes granola, fruit & quinoa for $10.99, gluten friendly jumbo pancakes for $7.99, the skinny omelette, steel cut oats, just $4.99  and simply salmon or chicken, are all option for a healthy start to your day.

Bananas Foster French Toast

While I didn’t have a chance to taste it, we were told ABEC has an award winning bloody mary, made with house infused vodka, habanera peppers and spices, (perhaps they’ll join our MostMetro.com Bloody Mary Showdown in 2015).  But it’s good to know you can add a refreshing  mimosa, bellini or liquor laced coffee to your brunch here, which differentiates ABEC from most other area breakfast eateries.

The restaurant  represents the first Ohio franchise of this Louisiana based award-winning restaurant concept. Local franchise owner Mike Craddick, who also has four local Five Guys Burger franchises, is planning at least three more restaurants in the Cincinnati-Dayton area.

Another Broken Egg Cafe is a leader in the morning restaurant sector with 37 restaurants to date across the southeast United States, California and Indiana. Ron Green founded the first ABE Cafe in 1996 on Girod Street in Old Mandeville, Louisiana. For more information about the restaurant locations, the history of ABEC and complete menus, please visit www.anotherbrokenegg.com

Firebirds at Austin Landing- Raising The Bar On Casual Dining

October 24, 2014 By Lisa Grigsby

Photo - ExteriorThe Charlotte North Carolina based Firebirds Wood Fired Grill will open it’s 36th eatery at Austin Landing this coming week. The 6,764-square-foot restaurant will seat 255 guests and feature an exhibition kitchen, indoor stone fireplace and outdoor patio. Open for lunch and dinner seven days a week,  Firebirds will feature a large variety of bold selections prepared in-house, including hand-cut steaks, fresh seafood, chicken and ribs — all seared over local hickory, oak or pecan wood.

I was lucky enough to make it to one of the practice dining meals Thursday night and I must say as someone who spent years opening up bars and restaurants, this one was incredibly smooth and well run.  The fourteen year old chain gets high marks for bringing their southePhoto - Double Black Diamond Martinirn charm to Dayton.  From the hostess, who sat us, our server who was eager to show off his knowledge of the house favorites, to the managers who came by our table, all were polite and personable, and not that forced, I have to visit your table,  ask a question I really don’t want to hear  your answer to and dash, that has become the norm for so many restaurants.

I started my night with the house specialty cocktail, the Double Black Diamond Martini® -fresh pineapple infused for 21 days with Svedka All Natural Citron Vodka and garnished with a sweet pineapple slice, that was suggested by our server.  We also took his recommendation and began our meal with the Lobster Spinach Queso Dip, and it was indeed a winner, with large chunks of sweet lobster meat in a warm, cheesy sauce.

Sometime during appetizerthumb_600 the VP of Marketing, Stephen Loftis stopped by our table and greeted my by name (a great sign of an organization that takes the time to make a note of the local media).  Mr Loftis shared a brief history of the company, including the owners love of Aspen as the inspiration for the “lodge” feeling to the eatery, pointed out the signature wine wall built in each unit, including Firebirds private reserve Sonoma Chardonnay and Napa Red Blend.   He was in town briefly, having just opened a Firebirds in Virginia the day before and shared that he’ll be back in town in a few weeks, to make sure that the store gets off to a good start and gets to know the community by getting involved with local events.  Loftis told us about a local family he was looking forward to meeting that were local ambassadors to  Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a program  Firebirds supports in the fight against childhood cancer. Each time a guest purchases a Fresh Squeezed Lemonade, Firebirds donates $1 back to the organization. Loftis shared Firebirds will be opening another location in Mason and hinted that if things go well that a second Dayton location might very well happen. FullSizeRender-1

Skipping the four signature  salads on the menu, we went straight to the meat!  My dinner partner ordered the Slow Roasted 16 oz Prime Rib, priced at $26.30 (a 12 oz portion is also available at $23.30) which came out a perfect medium with house made au jus,  a creamy horseradish sauce with just the right amount of kick and a loaded baked potato.  I went for a medium rare Bacon Wrapped Filet – which came out with a warm red center and  Grilled Shrimp with a side of the Southwest Au Gratin Potatoes (which are addicting and I’ll be ordering often) for $30.29.  We both agreed it was a lot of food, but we also felt an obligation to eat every bite, or at least that was our excuse to eat every tasty piece of food on our plate.

While we ate we met General Manager Jeff Meyer, who shared a copy of the kids’ menu with healthy items approved by the National Restaurant Association Kids LiveWell program.  “Firebirds provides the full spectrum, customized dining experience for every guest, FullSizeRender-3including a rather substantial gluten free menu.  We look forward to bringing the Firebirds experience to Miamisburg.”

For dessert we were tempted by the Key Lime Pie, I was intrigued by the Big Daddy Chocolate Cake, but again took our servers suggestion and shared a piece of the Creme Brulee Cheesecake, priced at $7.50.  Not only was it beautifully plated, but it was the perfect finale  to share for a meal that proved that the combination of Firebirds’ warm ambiance, personable service and delicious flavor provides a dining experience guaranteed to bring guests back.

While the restaurant does not have a private dining room, they do have areas that can accommodate large groups.  A party of 25 could would fit at the banquet under the wall of wine and the patio also offers a spacious area for a group, weather permitting.  Firebirds will also do catering and you can call in a take out order.  You can make reservations online or

I’m looking forward to enjoying happy hour in the Firebar with drink specials and bar bites from 4-6:30pm Monday through Friday with Mondays featuring  half-priced glasses of wine and select bottles until 9pm.  Perhaps our only critique of the eatery was the selection of beers, we were hoping for a better selection of craft beers, but were encouraged by the Warped Wing Self Starter on tap.  Management shared that each location has some input on their beer selections, so hopefully they will feature more of the Miami Valley’s local beers soon.    We registered for Firebirds’ E-Club and look forward  to receiving exclusive offers, promotions and a birthday gift card, as promised by our server.

My first visit made it easy to see why Firebirds Wood Fired Grill was named one of ten 2014 ‘Breakout Brands’ by Nation’s Restaurant News and received a 2014 Certificate of  Excellence from TripAdvisor.  For more information you can visit firebirdsrestaurants.com, like them on  Facebook and follow them on Twitter @FirebirdsGrill.

dublin-ca-bj-restaurant-brewhouse-now-open

We are pleased to be able to welcome BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse to Austin Landing,” said RG President Randy Gunlock. “BJ’s is a great restaurant and provides a memorable atmosphere. Personally, my family and I’ve eaten there many times, and I think the restaurant will be a great addition to the community here at Austin Landing.”

BJ’s will have an 8,300 square foot standalone restaurant at Austin Landing. Construction is projected to begin on March 25. The restaurant will be complete and ready to open by Fall 2013. The free-standing building will be located at the entrance to Austin Landing from Austin Boulevard.

“BJ’s offers the type of unique and exciting experience we hope to make available to the community when they visit Austin Landing,” Gunlock said. “We are confident the restaurant will receive a warm reception from the growing Austin Landing community.”

mapBJ’s Restaurants owns and operates 130 casual dining restaurants throughout the United States, including three in Ohio. BJ’s menu is known for its award-winning, signature deep-dish pizza, as well as generously portioned salads, appetizers, sandwiches, soups, pastas, entrees and desserts.

Last year, Austin Landing announced the commitments of Rue Dumaine, Alligator Annie’s and The Dublin Pub—the first restaurants to be announced at the development. Regal Cinemas also has committed to a 14-screen Regal RPX cinema, the first of its kind in Ohio, at Austin Landing.

Dessert Alert! Sweet Treats Festival Recap

January 30, 2013 By Dayton937 1 Comment

A Beautiful Cake from Kinder’s Kupcakes

It was a dessert lovers playground and a chocoholics dream.  We give you Dayton’s first ever “Sweet Treats Festival.”   Held at The Commander Aero Building in Springboro on Sunday January 27th, the event drew a nice crowd on this winter afternoon. There were confectioners, bakers, chefs and restaurateurs.   In fact over 30 vendors participated in the Sweet Treats Festival.   Every vendor booth had samples set out of various “sweet treat” specialties.   Festival goers could browse each display and sample to their heart’s content.  What a  surprise, the “foodies in their forties,”  The Food Adventures Crew tasted treats from each and every booth.   A few days later, the Food Adventurers are out of their sugar comas and here with a recap of the day’s festivities!

You know the old saying “Like a kid in a candy store?”  Well, here you had us BIG kids in a sweets festival which is a dangerous combination.  Sponsored in part by Dayton Most Metro, the festival featured some amazing displays that would have impressed Willy Wonka.

Junebug’s Cupcakes- deliciously decorated treats

Each vendor booth was set up in a circular setting to allow easy flow of the hungry crowd.  There were some many sweets and such talented people.  Below are the festival vendors and our impressions of each company.

  • 3 Leees Cupcakery – Incredible tasting desserts.  Some choices were vegan and gluten free.  Some of the best tasting cupcakes we tried.
  • Aim To Please Home Cooking – Specializing in various unique flavors of delicious rock candy and more.
  • Amy Cakes & Cookies– Some of the tastiest “cake pops” you will have and delicious cupcakes.
  • Baked – The friendly staff served up some very complex cupcake flavors that blew us away.
  • Cake, Hope & Love – Wonderful “chocolate mustaches” were a hit with the kids.  We loved the gorgeous cupcake display with beautiful toppings.
  • Cheryl & Co. – Turning sugar cookies into works of art.  The staff could not have been nicer.
  • Dee Dee’s Gourmet Peanut Brittle – Generous samples of delicious peanut brittle that seemed to melt in your mouth
  • Edible Arrangments – About as healthy as you can get at this festival.  The chocolate covered apples were a nice twist.
  • ele Cake Co – A Dayton Icon whose chocolate covered cake bites are a perfect gift to get your Valentine drooling.

“Over The Top Productions” had some inventive displays

  • Homemade by Heather– Amazing mini-pies, made just for this festival.  Full sizes on sale for full blown taste!
  • JuneBug’s Cupcakes– Icing decor on these cupcakes were matched by a rich tasting cake.
  • Kilwins – Located at the Greene, this vendor had a huge variety of top notch items including hand dipped caramel/chocolate apples.
  • Kinders Cupcakes – Not only did they have fantastic cupcakes, but their two display cakes were the most gorgeous in the house.
  • LongHorn Steakhouse– Local kitchen chefs have kicked up this restaurant.  They Key Lime cheesecake, apple strudel and chocolate brownies were homemade and not “chain” like.
  • Maria’s Buckeyes– The richest buckeyes ever.  Good eats, nice owner !
  • Moore Dessert Please – Local celebs from “Cupcake Wars” didn’t dissapoint with some mouthwatering cupcake treat.
  • Over The Top Productions–  Arguably the best display of the event. The decor was unique as they specialize in weddings and party events.
  • Sweet By Kristy– Cupcakes with ice cream in the middle. Genius!  One of the most popular items at the event and created a lot of buzz like birthday cake and ice cream all in one.
  • Sweet Eats Bake Shop – Intricately topped cupcakes led to creamy tastes across the board with this baker!
  • Sweet Nothings– Hands down, the best toffee we have ever eaten.  All flavors of the sea salt toffee are addicting!
  • The Rustic Loaf & Patisserie– From the chocolate crunch cake pops, to the cupcakes that looked like royalty.  These bites were eye pleasers and mouth pleasers!

Cupcake Display from “Cake, Hope & Love”

  • Signature Confections– What can you say about chocolate that sometimes takes 3 days to make?  Unique flavors such as Crown Royal, Khalua, Raspberry Guiness, Chai Tea, and Earl Grey Tea.  The painted pieces of chocolate belong in an art museum if they weren’t so tasty.
  • Two Bears Chocolates – They featured homemade caramels dipped in Boston Stoker’s Highlander Grogg Coffee.  the Big Ragu said it was the best flavored caramel he has ever eaten.  We loved the local twist on taste!
  • Winans Fine Chocolate– Some of the best turtle bark in the world.  We found ourselves overstaying our welcome at the sample dish.

Special thanks to The new Austin Landing Kroger for sponsoring the event.  Other sponsors included Tim Horton’s who provided coffee, while Aquafina supplied free bottled water.

All of the desserts were scrumptious, and with each vendor having numerous desserts.   There were over 100 sweet treats to choose from, and we got our taste buds on almost every delicacy.  Your Food Adventurers had some favorites that stood out from the pack.

The handpainted Candies from “Signature Confections” were nothing short of amazing

In our humble opinion, here were our picks:
Food Adventure’s Top 5 Favorite Items:

————————————————————————————————————————————————————

Highlander Grogg Caramels from “Two Bears Chocolates”

As the festival ended, we were stuffed with confections.  We had starved ourselves the whole day in anticipation for the event, and now we were going to sleep well.  From meeting local culinary masters to tasting their masterpieces, The Sweet Treats Festival was a full blown Food Adventure.  From the rich tastes to the sugar rush, the 3 hour event gave everyone more than enough time to get a feel for the desserts of the Dayton area.
In the end, sweet tooths were satisfied and blood glucose levels were raised.  The festival attendees were introduced to many local bakers and chefs for the first time.  From Hazelnut Pistachio Cupcakes to Chocolate Covered Fruit, this first ever Sweet Treats Festival seems to have a promising future for years to come.

Whoopie Pies from Thistle Confections

Held at Commander Aero,  located just south of  Austin Road on St Rt 741 in Miamisburg, the event will run from 1 – 4pm.   Tickets will be sold for $25 in advance, $30 at the door.  There is even a special group ticket deal- buy a bakers dozen (13) for the cost of just 10 tickets ($250).  Admission covers a taste from each vendor, a bottle of Aquafina water and insights and lessons from the vendors on the Kroger Demonstration Stage.  Tim Horton’s will be on hand serving up coffee as well.

Sweet Treats  was originally conceived as  an opportunity to showcase the growing number of small independent cup cake shops that have popped up in the Miami Valley in the last couple of years.  As Dayton Most Metro started researching possible participating bakeries, we were amazed that there were well over 50 locally owned shops in the area.  We quickly reached and exceeded our goal to have 20 participating vendors and already have a waiting list and a number of entrepreneurs asking to be kept in the loop for next year.  We’ve got bakers that will be offering up sugar free treats, gluten free goodies and even vegan  sweets like the whoopie pies pictured to the right at Sweet Treats.
