It’s the holiday season and everyone likes to get an unexpected gift, so DaytonDining has launched 12 Days of Giving! Using our facebook page, we’ll be promoting a different local eatery each weekday for the next couple of weeks. One of our lucky facebook fans that shares our Giving image will win a gift certificate to a Dayton area restaurant. Kicking off the promotion, Kettering’s Hawthorn Grill has a $25 gift certificate up for grabs. To find out who else we’ll be featuring, just check our facebook page day!
This is our gift back to the community, and we hope you’ll help thank our local restaurants with your patronage during the holiday season and don’t forget that restaurant gift certificates are easy gift giving! Happy Holidays from all of us at Dayton Dining!

Specializing in Eastern European cuisine, which matches the immigrants who first settled in this neighborhood, the Amber Rose is a great Old World atmosphere, and delicious food. Almost a year has passed since our big move to the city. It feels like so much has happened since then. At this time last year, our old house was completely torn apart. The last thing I was thinking of was cooking a turkey or putting up a Christmas tree. There were boxes everywhere. We had an offer on our home, but we still had no idea where we were going to hang our hat.
said, the house was waiting for us. It has 125 year old charm and stories and tons of warmth. It has good juju. It has (very friendly) ghosts of Christmas’s past. It has wonderful, friendly and fun neighbors. It has character and happiness and it exudes love. It was waiting for us.
I have much to feel thankful for this season. I have an incredible spouse and partner, the best kids and daughter-in-laws on the planet, some pretty incredible grandkids (with two more on the way), a wonderful family and in-laws, the best friends and neighbors in the world and some loving and sweet furry four-legged kids. This house is the perfect way to end a year of thanks –and the perfect jump start to a new and exciting future.

The candidates’ names are being thrown around so much that my 1 ½ old granddaughter picked up a pot holder and said “Mitt?” I was kind of hoping her first word would be Grammy. Sigh.

I was flying to Florida for business a few months ago. Since I was going to a business meeting, I was in a business casual suit. I made sure that I wore dress flats so my feet wouldn’t kill me walking long distances in the airports. This is how my parents taught me to dress when I fly. And most people do dress appropriate in public while flying, but it’s amazing the things you see before, during and after a flight! I am sure the people reading this are thinking the same thing.
