History of POLTERGEISTS at THE AMBER ROSE:
For the last 20 years, staff at the restaurant say that there are ghosts and apparitions that appear at all times of the day.  There are also claims of unexplained phenomena such as glasses and dishes being tossed, lights going on and off and more.  One of the ghosts  is believed to be the daughter of the former house owner.  She is a playful spirit named Genevieve Ksiezopolski aka “Chickie.”  Does she haunt the restaurant?  Take for example this incident, where a cook claimed to see a full apparition of a lady in a long dress who walked into the room, then turned and walked away. When the frightened cook alerted the staff, they quickly pulled the security surveillance camera footage.  CLICK HERE TO SEE WHAT THEY SAW ON THE SECURITY CAMERA.

NEW FINDINGS in 2017:

Do you believe in GHOSTS?

For the last couple of months, an independent paranormal investigating team has been taking sound samples, photos, and kinetic energy studies and have made some new findings.  We unveil the new evidence on October 7th,  and also highlight some of the discoveries from the past year’s investigations done by the three person team.

“ParaSense” a famous local team will present paranormal findings

WORLD CLASS Independent Paranormal Investigators:
Kat Powell and Shelly Suittor met in 1999 as tour guides for the Ohio State Reformatory, Prospect Place, and Snow Hill Country Club and teamed up with Alicia Soich in 2012,  This “ghost hunter” crew has appeared on National Television!  Their work has been featured in “America’s Most Haunted,” “My Ghost Story”, and Haunted Ohio VI. They’ve logged hundreds of hours of field research and private investigations across the state. What will their findings be?  Will they be contacted by “Chickie” or some other poltergeist?

This promises to be one the biggest and goosebump raising Food Adventures to date. We are expecting a sellout crowd of over 100 foodies, beer lovers and fans of the supernatural. Prepare to be creeped out !!

Hungry Jax, The Big Ragu and Chef House will stick around after the dinner for some cash bar drink specials and late night apps value menu downstairs.  We will be talking beers and ghosts with attendees.  The paranormal investigators will answer questions as well.

Video Proof: Amber Rose Restaurant is Haunted !

October 30, 2014 By Dayton937 4 Comments

The Ghost that Haunts The Amber Rose

First and foremost, The Amber Rose Restaurant has some of the most delicious comfort food in Dayton.  This eatery has some terrific Eastern European style food.  But there is a spooky side to this place on 1400 Valley Street in Dayton.  Yes, this Food Adventure fright comes right in time for Halloween.  That’s right, Big Ragu and the Crew have the inside scoop on the The Amber Rose.

HERE’S THE SKINNY:

— The building was built in 1912 by Sigmunt Ksiezopolski and was a general store through the 1980’s

— In 1989 Elinor Sluzas bought the building and opened the Amber Rose a year later.   The menu was her own Lithuanian recipes, and her twists on Eastern European favorites.

— Named Amber Rose for the Amber jewels mined in Lithuania and Northern Europe, and Rose symbolizing love and compassion.

— in 1998, owner Joe Castellano bought the restaurant, and still uses Elinor’s recipes.  The entire staff is very friendly.

— Practically every item is homemade.  This is a restaurant that does things the way it should be… from scratch.  If it isn’t made ‘in-house,’ it is bought from local vendors.

— The Amber Rose does a lot of catering for business events, weddings, etc.  In fact, it is the largest part of their business.

— Banquet Room upstairs, and a meeting room as well, allows an option for wedding receptions, or a private Food Adventure (stay tuned)

HERE’S THE SCARY:

Longtime Server Aimee who shared the ghost video with Amber Rose Owner Joe Castellano

— The Amber Rose and its story appear in the book “Haunted Ohio III”

— The daughter of the original owner of the building is said to haunt the main level and upstairs of Amber Rose.  Her name is Genevieve Ksiezopolski, and is also known as “Chickie.”

— Long time waitress Aimee has witnessed glasses flying off the shelves

— Owner Joe Castellano has seen lights and fans turned on in the upstairs office, after he had turned them off.

— One of the restaurant cooks claimed to have seen the ghostly apparition of Genevieve aka “Chickie.”  He says the spirit was in front of him, then lifted up her ruffled dress slightly, and walked out of the room.  Now comes the unexplainable part…. There are security cameras throughout the restaurant including the kitchen.  When the management heard the cook’s story, they decided to pull up the surveillance tape.  What they saw was a small, bright, white orb enter, circle and leave the room at the same exact time the cook said he saw the ghost.  Eerie.. Is it proof of a ghost, or just a coincidence?

HERE IS THE VIDEO: YOU BE THE JUDGE  –

— Paranormal investigators visit the restaurant each year and claim that a second ghost, named Richard, inhabits the basement.

MUST EATS:

— DELUXE POTATO PANCAKES:  This appetizer is covered in cheddar-jack cheese, bacon and scallions.  The crispy circles are and served with sour cream, for a rich indulgence you wont soon forget.

— ELINOR’S SIGNATURE TURTLE SOUP:  An amazing must eat!  If you have never had turtle soup, don’t be afraid.  It is a cross between vegetable soup and chili.  We challenge anyone to try a cup and tell us it is not delicious.

— PIEROGI & ONIONS:  This “old country” favorite is a rarity in Dayton.  Amber Rose does it right.  Homemade pierogi dumplings with sauteed onions, served with a side of cream cheese.  If you have never had pierogies, they are dumplings filled with potato.  It makes for a rich, filling comfort food, and a favorite in Poland.

— THE TRADITIONAL REUBEN:  Stacked high with thinly sliced corn beef, the sandwich is then topped with sauerkraut.  Condiments slapped on include 1000 island dressing and swiss cheese.  The finishing touch is grilling the rye bread.  A Food Adventure on a plate, indeed.

— THE WARSAW MEDLEY: This dish features four of the restaurants specialties.  First, the CABBAGE ROLLS, which are one of the best selling items at the restaurant.  The dish also features a sausage link, HOMEMADE SAUSAGE, so it is the real deal!  Thirdly, the SAUERKRAUT.  Now listen, we are picky on our sauerkraut and The Big Ragu says this sweet recipe is the best sauerkraut he has ever eaten.  It is a Lithuanian spin on German Sauerkraut, and has less of a “sour bite.”

Like Reuben Sandwiches? Try The Amber Rose version on for size….

— THE HUNTER SCHNITZEL SANDWICH: Hand breaded with pretzels.. need we say more?  The pork loin is then golden fried, and served on  a hoagie bun with lettuce, tomato, onion and dark mustard.   Opt for the Hunter Dinner instead, served with no bread, but covered in a creamy mustard sauce.. all homemade !

— ANNUAL “OKTOBERFEST”:  During the month of October, your first draft beer is 10 cents, and the ones after are $1.50.

Honorable Mention:  Two other favorites include the Polish Sausage Stuffed Mushrooms and the German Bier Cheese Dip served with pretzels and rye bread.

We recommend stopping by this incredible unique and lovable restaurant.  Become enchanted by the old world menu, and the savory dishes.   The food is complimented by the atmosphere of stained glass accent windows and tin ceilings for a European Cafe feel.

Get some spirits at the bar and maybe say hello to the spirit known as “Chickie.”  Remember, roses are amber, violets are blue, eat the delicious food and you may get a BOO!  Happy Halloween, Foodies !

Food Adventures does “Dinner and a Ghost!”

October 21, 2013 By Dayton937 3 Comments

Is Snow Hill Country Club Haunted ? Have dinner and decide yourself

Ever had dinner with a ghost?   Well here is your chance, Ghost Hunters!   Snow Hill Country Club is haunted, and had been serving up “Dinner and a Ghost” nights on Fridays in October for the past 12 years.    In fact, the place is so legendary, that it was featured on an episode of the Biography channel’s “My Ghost Story.”  The country club is located just outside of Wilmington, on State Route 73.  The “Dinner and a Ghost” nights feature food, fear and even an overnight stay.

The Food Adventures Crew have eaten in many scary places, but this was our first “Haunted Food Adventure.”   The food is pretty straight forward.  On our two trips to the country club, buffet items included turkey and ham, while another night they featured ribs and salmon.   The meal is rounded out with salad, a couple of sides and a dessert plate shared by the table, or possibly some cake.

But we weren’t here for the food, we were here for the ghosts.  And Snow Hill delivered….

HERE’S THE SKINNY:

— “Dinner and a Ghost” features appetizers in the bar and a buffet style dinner.    The menu has improved since the 1820’s and they wont be serving  rabbit, steamed onions, venison and beef tongue anymore.

One of our dinners featured Ribs and Salmon

— After dinner, the hosts take you on a guided tour complete with historical information, sound recordings of unexplained voices, and even a couple of photos believed to be “supernatural.”  Tour gurus include historian Kathleen Madison and Ghost expert/Paranormal Investigator Shelly Suittor.   Supporting cast includes Ghost Hunters Kat Powell and Alicia Soich.

— After the tour, guests are encouraged to look around for about an hour and explore for themselves.  During this time a few notable unexplained “phenomenon” have been known to occur.

— Attendees may purchase alcohol at a full service bar on the main level.

— There are 6 guest rooms, and groups may make reservations to stay the night for about 100 bucks per room.   Included in the stay is “ghost hunting” all night, if you have the guts to roam the halls late at night.   Even golf may be arranged during good weather.

— Snow Hill Country Club is located in New Vienna, Ohio at 11093 New Vienna Rd (Daytonians know this as State Route 73).  Famous visitors have included Henry Ford, Eleanor Roosevelt, and legendary 1920’s golfer, Walter Hagen.

— Minimum groups for ‘dinner and a ghost’ are 12 people.  Cost of dinner and tour is $45 per person.

Click to enlarge: What you think of the “orb” in this photo. Is it the sign of a spirit ?

MUST SCREAMS:

— Snow Hill was built and owned by the Harris family in 1820.  It was a popular Inn and tavern up through the 1900’s.  One of the oldest running businesses in Ohio, the country club is said to be haunted by spirits of past owners, family members and past guests.

— Many stories abound from the 70’s and 80’s like a man whom believed he hit a pedestrian in the road, but noone was found.   Or records of police and firefighters responding to alarms and seeing unexplained light and movements throughout the house.

— The Food Adventures Crew had a few unexplained happenings during our two tours:

Big Ragu was taking photographs in the dark, damp cellar thought to be a passage for the underground railroad.   In some of the photos, some circular orbs appeared, one very prominently.  We were told that many ghost hunters believe these are tell tale signs of “spirits” in the room.   To be honest, we do not know what to think, other than the orbs were strange and not in photos taken of the same place seconds earlier.  The prominent orb in the photo had a distinct outline and almost looked to have “veins” running through it.  Odd indeed.  Is it a spirit?  You decide.

The Big Ragu was in the storage area of the basement, when the door next to him opened about an inch and then slammed quickly.  He looked around the room at the handful of people near him and they had that “oh crap” look on their face.  Ragu opened the door and saw a dark empty hall with a staircase, there was nobody there.  There was also a moment where the Big Ragu felt something grab his back pocket.  He was unsure if this was a  fan who liked his behind or a ghost.

Elegant, yet Spooky: Stay the night… if you dare

— During our 2nd visit to Snow Hill, one of our fellow guests took a photo of what appears to be an apparition in one of the bedrooms.   Again, unexplained and just plain weird.

— Employees tell stories of glasses shattering, chandeliers swinging violently, and various apparition sightings.

— Recordings of various unexplained voices gave us goosebumps, especially one particular ghost that whispered the word “Becky” as clear as day on the recording.  The voice was creepy like Golem from Lord of the Rings movies, or like someone who ate too much at Golden Corral.

— An 1880’s portrait photo of an man was found in a cupboard, and when locked away, would keep appearing in various open areas of the country club.  One of the tour guests recognized the photo as her ancestor Thomas Wilson, a Civil War vet.   Since being identified, it was found out that he was a former owner of the country club, purchasing it at auction in 1898.  Since being identified, his photo has ceased moving inexplicably.

— A candlemaker tool levitated and slammed to the ground on a couple of occasions in front of various dinner party guests a few years back.   The theory is that the ghost of the original owner, Mrs Harris, might not be keen on a “peasant tool” being allowed in her formal dining room as decor.

With Halloween around the corner, this is the perfect time for “Dinner and a Ghost” at Snow Hill Country Club.  We were skeptical going in, and realized after 2 visits, some things happened that we couldn’t explain.  Were they spirits from lives past?   Look at our photos, listen to the recordings in person.  Is the place haunted?  Did we see “ghosts?”  You decide…. and check it out for yourself,  but we suggest you don’t go alone.

Click to enlarge: On our 2nd trip to Snow Hill a fellow guest took this pic. Is is a ghost?
