Support Breast Cancer Charities through 5k For Kelli on Saturday Aug 20th

August 17, 2016 By LIbby Ballengee

5k1

Kelli’s family remembers her through this annual fundraiser!

The Breast Wishes Foundation presents the 4th annual 5k for Kelli to honor and support women with breast cancer and to remember all those we have lost. The 5k for Kelli is a fun and family friendly event that gives 100% of its proceeds to local charities: The Noble Circle Project, Good Samaritan Hospital’s Breast Health Center and our very own Breast Wishes Foundation which grants wishes that bring joy to women and their families affected by breast cancer.

This race is in memory of Kelli James who lost her battle with breast cancer in 2006, and is organized by her two loving sisters. Kelli loved fairies so they encourage everyone to wear tutus and wings…no fairy gear? No problem! We will have plenty to purchase at the merchandise tent with all proceeds going to charity.

Raffle tickets for $1 include prizes like a 50″ flat screen TV, Kings Island tickets, massages, $100 Kroger gift card, Restaurant gift cards for Luckys, Roost and even the Oakwood Club! It’s a Bird, It’s a Plane, It’s a Donut !

April 14, 2016 By Dayton937 Leave a Comment

Look, over at Centerville Stadium, caped superheros of all sorts are descending on the track for a 5k / 10k Walk/Run this Saturday, April 16th!  They are able to leap a dozen pretzel donuts in a single bound.  They are the runners/walkers for this special event.

Dubbed the “Bill’s Donut Superhero Run,” this walk/run event is for kids and adults.   Most importantly it benefits a local charity, the Dayton, Ohio Affiliate Chapter of “A Special Wish Foundation, Inc.,” covering Montgomery, Darke, Mercer, Miami, Greene & Shelby Counties.

The event allows families to participate together, or just kids, or just adults.   Who is your favorite super hero?  Green Lantern?  The Flash?  Wonder Woman? Who will you dress up as?

Join the fun and come dressed as your favorite super hero.  Kids go crazy for this stuff, and what a fun way to promote healthy exercise in their lives.   You even get to have some world famous Bill’s Donuts after the race, as well as Mikesells chips, bananas, and grilled hot dogs.  What a fun Food Adventure!

Super heroes get hungry too, ya know.  Plenty of bottled water will be available for re-hydration of our super powers after the race.

What is your favorite donut?  Blueberry?  Long Johns?  Persian Nuts?  Maybe even stop by for more Bill’s Donuts on the way home, around the corner from the stadium.

HERE’S THE SKINNY:

The Legendary Bill’s Pretzel Donut

— WHAT: BILL’S DONUTS SUPERHERO RUN,

     Option for 1 mile KIDS FUN RUN, 5k walk/Run, or 10k walk/run

Thank you to the Elam family, who own Bill’s Donuts, for hosting the event !

— Have a super hero shirt or costume?  Wear it !

This is one of the most fun and entertaining local races of the year.  Come out and walk, run, or just people watch.  Bring the kids and sign them up for the fun run, it is an absolute riot to see some of the youngsters in their “super hero” alter egos.  Kudos to Bill’s Donuts, the Elam family,  A Special Wish staff, and all the sponsors for helping out the charity  “A Special Wish Foundation, Inc.”

The Big Ragu, Hungry Jax and Chef House will be in attendance volunteering passing out donuts, and even participating in the walk/run.  Come join the Food Adventures Crew and hundreds of others.

Run for the Beer – A Casual Running Group Event

December 14, 2015 By Dayton Most Metro

pintnightDayton Pint Night is a monthly casual group run and is free to all. After a few miles all are invited to a local pub or brewery to enjoy the local fare.

This month’s routes (you have a choice of a 1.4 mile for  beginners and a 3.4 mile for those looking for a longer route) will be starting at American Health and Fitness at 59 S Main St in Miamisburg,  and making a loop around the beautiful city of Miamisburg. The course we will end right back where we started, then the party will move to Bennett’s Publical.

Thanks to the friendly folks at American Health & Fitness, they are allowing the use of their state of the art facility to get ready for the race. So while you’re inside changing from your boring work clothes into your running gear, check out this great gym and see what all they have to offer.

bennettsNow for the part everyone has been waiting for…. beer! Bennett’s Publical has graciously offered to be the adult beverage sponsor. So after we burn off a couple hundred calories, lets head down to Bennett’s to add them right back on with a pint…. or two…. probably two… at least.

We are a group with a passion for 2 of life’s greatest pleasures…. running and beer!

3rd Annual 5k for Kelli at Wegerzyn Gardens

August 6, 2015 By LIbby Ballengee

5k for Kelli is in memory of Kelli James

5k for Kelli is in memory of Kelli James

Sure there are plenty of 5k races in the area, but the upcoming 5k for Kelli is particularly close to my heart, as well as many other people in the Dayton area. Kelli James, a beloved wife, mother and sister, passed away in 2006 at the age of 40 to that cruel beast known as breast cancer. Kelli’s two ambitious sisters, Elesha Snyder and Mandi Moore, set to work. They wanted to honor their sister and help others going through this horrific situation.

Elesha explains the motivation for this race: “She was a very healthy person who never smoked or drank, and enjoyed outdoor activities. She was always so much fun and encouraged those around her to live life to the fullest. As you can imagine, losing her was devastating, not just to us, but to her two young children as well.”

She continues: “We wallowed in our depression for a few years but then Mandi and I decided to take action. We started by running and walking charity events that raised money for breast cancer charities like Susan G. Komen and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. In 2012, we decided to do our own 5k and 5k for Kelli was born. The first event was in August 2013 and we had over 300 participants. In two years, the 5k for Kelli has raised about 15,000 and given it to Hospice of Dayton, The Noble Circle Project and Good Sam. We received the Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation’s Community Champion Award for 2013 and the Dayton Dragon’s Community All-Star Award in 2015. We are 100% volunteer based and there are ZERO administrative fees in our organization. We are a registered 501(c)(3).”

1488137_1447337692156225_1595091691_nThis year, Elesha and Mandi have created their very own charity in memory of Kelli called Breast Wishes. They grant wishes and give the gift of joy to local women and their families affected by breast cancer by presenting them with spa days, nice dinners, yoga retreats, and even family vacations.

This race has some great assets: First, it’s run at the gorgeous Wegerzyn Gardens Metro Park. Any excuse to see that park in the summertime is well worth it! Second, in honor of Kelli’s fondness of fairies, runners are encouraged to wear wings, flower crowns, and/or tutus during the race. What fun! Lastly and most importantly, 100% of the funds raised from this event will go to supporting local women living with breast cancer to help with nutrition, education, medical expenses, and the new “Breast Wishes” fund.
